ZodTTD now has psx4iphone running very speedy on the 3GS.  It’s at the point where Final Fantasy 7 is full-speed at very least without sound. The build is rough around the edges, as you can’t switch games without restarting the emulator, and only memory card saves are currently working, no save states just yet. Both these issues are being worked on.

So how would you like to run psx4iphone on your 3GS right now, even without a jailbreak? Well you can! ZodTTD can make a build for a limited number of people. In order to run this build you will need a tool like DiskAid for PC & Mac to place games & bios, that you must supply yourself, in a publicly writable directory. It’s simple drag & drop.

Still up for it? Since ZodTTD only a limited number of slots to fill to send out this build, it will currently cost $10 and you must email him your 40 character device ID (UUID/UDID) as provided within iTunes.

Stack v3.0 Alpha1 allows for multiple stacks by implement the stack as an icon which can be moved anywhere on your SpringBoard. It’s re-written to be an icon in SpringBoard and can be moved anywhere, has all the same positioning and reordering abilities as any other icon, it doesn’t interfere with other apps, and is generally the cleanest and best way to Stacks’ implementation.

Copy, Paste, Cut & Undo

To use hold your finger in one place over an area of text. The magnifying glass will pop up and you’ll have the options for “Select” “Select all” and/or “Paste” (Paste only pops up if you have something copied already and are in an editable text area). If you choose “Select” you get some little doo-dads (technical term) that you can move around to select what you want to copy. “Select all” chooses the entire text region. In some areas you just hold the magnifying glass for awhile and let go, the phone will auto select an area and give you the option to copy. To paste go to somewhere where you can edit test, hold, select “Paste.” Cut works like “Select” except it cuts test from an editable area for paste somewhere else. To share safari links just hold on the link, wait for the pop up, and select copy.

Send & Receive MMS, Resend TXT

For most AT&T users, MMS is functioning with iPhone firmware 3.0. It is integrated into the normal SMS app. Choose the camera icon to the left of the text entry bit while in SMS to take a photo or choose one from your library to send. When you receive MMS a miniature image will pop up mid-conversation which you can select to see the full size.

Unfortunately, AT&T will support this function later this Summer.

If you send a txt message and it fails (because you lost network strength or something) you can simply re-send it without re-typing.

Listen to Stereo Bluetooth

If you have stereo bluetooth headphones or similar devices simply pair them to your iPhone. Done. Nice little image while you’re playing tunes too!

Is said to be faster. It might be only faster with new iPhone 3GS.

Voice Memos

Yeah there is a Voice Memos app by default now. If you couldn’t find one of the many apps that do the same thing (and many of them do it better) in the App Store by now then this less than impressive feature might be of interest.

iPod Scrubbing

Jumping to specific points in your music is easier now. Grab the track location marker, slide you finger downward slightly, and scrubbing is enabled at a slower speed allowing more precision when trying to find a specific bit of the track. Further you slide downward the more precise it gets from high speed->half speed->quarter speed->fine scrubbing.

I’m having Nokia N82 and it’s really tough. I accidentally dropped it from second floor to the ground (about 15ft) and it was ok (small crack at one corner, minor scratches, broken camera). Again, crazy guys over at N97Geeks are truly fearless and they have really shown how tough the Nokia N97, just released this month, was put together. Screen scratch test, Pocket test, Paintwork scratch test, Drop in breakfast test, Wash test and Drop test.

This is the low down on our tools for use with the 3.0 firmware from Apple, read the whole post in full before attempting anything. Because of some bugs and unexpected changes this will be a multipart release, starting with the release of PwnageTool for Mac OS X. QuickPwn for Mac OS X and Windows will follow sometime soon, please don’t bug us about it, we are working flat out to get everything finished to release them.

  1. GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a 3G iPhone with yellowsn0w and rely on yellowsn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should NOT use PwnageTool right now. UltraSn0w is not included with this release and therefore your baseband will be locked and unable to use an operator other than the official one it was bought for. UltraSn0w will be release via APT (cydia and icy) soon. If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.0 unlock works with this PwnageTool release.
  2. Yellowsn0w in its current form will NOT work with the baseband version that is present in the 3.0 update, you will need Ultrasn0w, which will be released sometime soon, Ultrasn0w will work with all iPhone 3G models (but not 3GS), even ones that were previously unlockable, Ultrasn0w (when available) will be released via APT (this means you can get it via Cydia or Icy).
  3. Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
  4. Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
  5. At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the 3.0 capable version of PwnageTool.
  6. This app is suitable for the recent 3.0 release.
  7. PwnageTool will NOT work for the iPhone 3GS.
  8. PwnageTool WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch (1st Generation) and the iPhone 3G.

Baseband 101

The ‘baseband’ is the generic nickname given to the internal components of the iPhone that handle the phone calls and Internet access. This ‘baseband’ is a tiny and unique independent computer system that runs inside your iPhone, it is separate to the main system that handles the applications (such as email and google maps) and it talks to the main part of the phone over an internal communications network. Think of it like a cable modem or other peripheral that is attached to your home PC that needs occasional updates. When a software update is released and presented to you within iTunes the baseband is sometimes updated (to fix bugs or add new features). The 3.0 update for the iPhone 3G contains such an update, so running the vanilla updater straight away with iTunes will reprogram and update the baseband.

SIM Free/SP Unlocked/Factory Unlocked iPhone 3G

This applies if you bought your iPhone 3G for $$$$$$$. This model of iPhone 3G doesn’t have an Service Provider lock (aka factory unlocked) and you are able to put any SIM card into the phone and get service. Your phone is already unlocked so you do not need to worry about baseband updates, simply upgrade to 3.0 using iTunes and then use PwnageTool to create an ipsw and then use this to jailbreak your phone.

iPhone 2G (1st Generation)

Use PwnageTool to do the magic and then restore with iTunes using your newly created .ipsw ‘nuff said, you don’t need to worry about anything, the baseband will be unlocked, the phone jailbroken.

iPod Touch 1G (Original iPod Touch)

Use PwnageTool to create a firmware image and restore with that .ipsw using iTunes.

iPod Touch 2G (New iPod Touch)

Sorry, no support at this time within PwnageTool, use Redsn0w for an earlier (pre 3.0) firmware release instead.

REDSN0W PROVIDES SIMILAR FUNCTIONALITY TO QUICKPWN.

redsn0w is an easy to use, multi-platform, multi-device jailbreaking and unlocking tool for the iPhone 2G (original iPhone), the iPhone 3G (but not the 3GS) and also the iPod touch (first and second generation). Currently it is available for Windows and Mac OS X (there are some issues using redsn0w with OS X PPC, please use an Intel Mac until we have this problem resolved).

If you want to build custom firmware files with more flexibility it is suggested that you use ‘PwnageTool’ on Mac OS X.

  1. GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a 3G iPhone with yellowsn0w and rely on yellowsn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should NOT use redsn0w right now. Ultrasn0w (the 3G carrier unlock) is not included with this release and therefore your baseband will be locked and unable to use an operator other than the official one it was bought for. UltraSn0w will be released via APT (cydia and icy) soon. If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.0 carrier unlock works with this redsn0w release.
  2. Yellowsn0w in its current form will NOT work with the baseband version that is present in the 3.0 update, you will need Ultrasn0w, which will be released sometime soon, Ultrasn0w will work with all iPhone 3G models (but not 3GS), even ones that were previously unlockable, Ultrasn0w (when available) will be released via APT (this means you will be able to get it via Cydia or Icy).
  3. Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
  4. Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
  5. At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the latest version of redsn0w.
  6. This app is suitable for the recent 3.0 release
  7. redsn0w will NOT work for the iPhone 3GS.
  8. redsn0w WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch, iPod touch 2G and the iPhone 3G (not the iPhone 3GS).

To use redsn0w simply upgrade the device in iTunes to firmware version 3.0 and run redsn0w to activate and jailbreak the device (and if you are using an original iPhone 2G, it will unlock it too!)

Satio is features reach Smartphone equipped with Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G, HSDPA and is also confirmed to be powered same Texas’s OMAP chipset as the Samsung’s Omnia HD or Palm Pre.

Great PowerVR SGX 2D/3D GPU from Imagination Technology incorporated into even greater Texas Instrument’s OMAP 3 together with the fully programmable VGP vertex processor core, FPU (floating point unit) and Superscalar 600-800 MHz ARM Cortex-A8 RISC core giving it at least 3 times better graphic performance over the conventional ARM11 processors that Nokia uses in their touch devices, Nokia 5800 XM as well as Nokia N97.

It also supports advanced OpenGL ES 2.0 shader-based graphics and is capable to provide superior graphics performance and advanced user interface capabilities and significantly improved gaming experience.

I’m having 3G iPhone 8GB v2.2.1 (5H11) with 02.30.03 firmware, or baseband, and I’m using a Toshintosh v10.5.7, which is what I call for a Toshiba laptop running a Hackintosh. This is a little advanced instruction how-to:

  1. Require iTunes 8.1.1 (not latest 8.2), or uninstall and downgrade here
  2. iTunes > restore iPhone to original 2.2 firmware, download here
  3. PwnageTool > customize your own firmware 2.2 with Cydia and at least 700MB root partition.
  4. Terminal > $ mkdir ~/Library/iTunes/Device\ Support > if that directory is already existed, remove any file in it
  5. (PwnageTool) > choose NO when prompted and continue in iTunes
  6. iTunes > restore customized firmware
  7. Cydia > Section > System > install Fuzzyband Downgrader
  8. iPhone Home > Fuzzyband Downgrader > if using Bootloader 05.08, downgrade baseband to 02.28; otherwise if 05.09 or later, you are out of luck right now and skip the rest
  9. Cydia > Manage > Sources > Add source: http://apt9.yellowsn0w.com/
  10. (Source) > apt9.yellowsn0w.com > install yellowsn0w
  11. iPhone Home > power off and power on
  12. iPhone should be unlock now. Enjoy!!!

Here are my result and some troubleshoots:

  • My iPhone’s bootloader is 05.09 and I’m still waiting for next release.
  • Do not download firmwares using Safari (Mac). It will extract them into folders.
  • If you get error 1600 from iTunes, redo everything from beginning.
  • If you get error 1013 from iTunes when restoring original firmware, it’s ok.
